U13s partnership
Dartmouth U13s have forged a successful alliance with Salcombe RFC. Both clubs had insufficient numbers to form a full side, and with a full fixture list ahead of them that they couldn't hope to fulfil, Salcombe had announced its plans to fold at U13s level. Dartmouth had not fixtures at all for U13s. But at the beginning of half term Jake, Jed and Olly (and Angus - but he's a bit young really) travelled to Salcombe to help them to victory against visiting Newton Abbot. Damon and Chris who went with them could not have been made more welcome and were plied with free breakfasts and beverages as a mark of gratitude. Tom Woods, the Salcombe coach, has now given me a pile of fixture lists and membership forms (our boys will have to register with SRFC for insurance purposes but will not need to re-register with the RFU) and the next match is on Nov 22nd away at Paignton. Please let me know if you would like your son to play on that day. I'll be at training on Thursday with all the paperwork. Salcombe train on a Friday and while they'd love to have us there they understand that Friday night is judo/youth club/pub night for us in Dartmouth! So if our U13s could continue to train together on a Thursday that would be great. This is a great way of keeping our lads playing together and keeping rugby alive in Dartmouth and Salcombe. Let's help to make it work.

IVYBRIDGE FESTIVAL
Another great day out at Ivybridge, who really do know how to organise an event. This year was bigger than ever with nearly 40 teams taking part.
Under 8's and Under 7s did really well, and apart from a slightly mental coach from Ivybridge, the day was really enjoyable for all.
Sorry to say I didnt have the Under 8's try scorers for the paper, but if someone can send them to me today I will try to get Phil to include them. I did hear that Tom and Lewis did particularly well, and the whole of the Under 8's were really superb.
I coached the Under 7's and was delighted with the way all the boys played. We had tries from nearly everyone (I was gutted that Dylan didnt manage to catch Alex in the last game because Al was determined to give him the ball) and the team is a real pleasure to work with. We did win 3 of the 4 games, but that was less important than the fact we had a great day and that everyone was having fun (I think Finn and William enjoyed creating new fizzy drinks flavours more than the rugby).
Thanks again to all the parents for getting involved and coming along.
Well done to everyone and see you at the end of season lunch.

Saturday 21st March.
Thanks to everybody for all their help and for turning up on a Saturday. Great feedback from Wellington, saying we have a good set up and 3 good sides in the making. They were impressed with the buffet, which they were not expecting. We may return the fixture next season, so a tour will definetely be first on the list.!!! Cu all on Thursday.

Super Saturday postponed
Email received from Kev:
Hi all
Bad news but Exeter had to cancel their cup game on Saturday and as a result they have to play that game next Saturday, which means our Super Saturday is postponed.
Obviously they have only just heard and Keith let me know as soon as he could.
Sorry but its out of our hands (and Exeters).
We will refund money to you.

Saturday 14 February
Looks like we have over 50 going to Exeter on the 14 february, including about 30 kids so far.
Meet at Leisure centre at 9am.
We should be back about 6pm latest.
If you cannot make it but you would like your child to come then that should be fine as we have lots of adults going - they will have a really good time.
However, I hope that this will be an annual event if it goes well so don't worry if you miss out this year.

i'm looking to get a coach for the Exeter Chiefs game so we need numbers as soon as possible. This will be paid for by the club!! Don't worry ladies, we will be back for at least 6pm so your husbands will be able to take you out!!! i have had the odd comment that it's a wrong day to do it but we cannot waste such a great opportunity to do this as it will be a great experience for the kids and actually put Dartmouth RFC Mini's on the rugby map!!!

25 January 2009 - v Newton Abbot (home)

Under 12s, Under 9s and Under 7s all played very muddy games on Sunday. Under 12s continue to improve, scoring their first try and successfully converting it at the beginning of the second half. The second half picked up from there on with some good aggressive play and a final score of Newton Abbot 70 - Dartmouth 7.
Under 9s had two very hard matches but have started to ruck well and the whole squad showed some great teamwork. Frankie, Jonty and Devon tackled well and Matt, Josh and Henry put is some great supporting play and great runs. Andreas despite still being new to the squad showed great determination and scored his first try. The first game ended with a fantastic score of Dartmouth 30 - Newton Abbot 5. The second game against a fresh NA squad was again hard fought and at half time saw Dartmouth trailing one try behind but after a brief half time pause the squad dug in and pulled back with three fantastic end to end tries from Devon and Josh and Newton Abbot despite some strong defensive work just couldn't find a response to the runaway train. The second game ended Dartmouth 35 - Newton Abbot 10.
The Under 7s also continue to work well with great teamwork and tagging all round. Joe and Alex Thomas and William Hollis all had excellent games with the team winning the first game by a convincing 8 - 6 and narrowly losing out in the second by one just one point Darts 9 - NA 10.
Well done all.

We have light
The first floodlight has arrived and will be ready for testing on Thursday.
Hoepfully the council will have fixed the other lights - but we are on the way to having our own lighting.
Hooray!

Boots Plea
Poor Angus (tall lad, scrum cap - you know the one) was rushed out of the Torquay changing rooms in a big hurry on Sunday so his little brother could get to a birthday party, and he left his brand-new-worn-once-Christmas-present rugby boots behind. They are size 8 Mitre boots and he is very sad...
His Dad drove all the way back to look for them (he was pleased!) but no sign, so if anyone has picked them up please give me a ring on 01803 832143 or email me heatherclong@yahoo.co.uk and I'll come and get them, or see you at training on Thursday.
Deary me!!!

Results Sunday 11 Jan
Under 11's - sadly another defeat but once again the team really pulled together and gave a good account. The trys are going to come, and the great thing is that everyone is really pushing for a win. Keep up the good work.
Under 9's - a full team for the first time this year, and the contrast to last week was evident. Both individually and as a team this was a fantastic performance, and well done to Andreas who is still new to the contact game but really got stuck in.
Under 8's - played two games and showed some fantastic skills in defence and attack. Some fantastic tagging from the whole team demonstrated how much the boys are coming on, although they were sadly beaten in both games.
Under 7's - On a tiny pitch, and with two players added from torquay, the game was difficult, but the boys showed their abilities once again. Alex and Mojo were as usual fast and furious, both scoring a couple of tries. William John scored a couple of excellent individual tries, as did William Hollis, and try of the day probably went to Oskar who broke away to run the length of the pitch and score.A draw and a win obscured the fact that Dartmouth Under 7's could have run away with the game.
